After amputation surgery, a referral can be made to the Prosthetic Clinic at Grand River Hospital- Freeport Health Site. There, you will meet with a rehabilitation team consisting of a physiatrist, physiotherapist and prosthetist. After the initial assessment , the team will discuss self-care and considerations for living accommodations post amputation.

The rehabilitation team will work with you to determine your current and future goals, activity level and any special considerations in regards to prosthetic design. With this in mind, your prosthetist will discuss componentry and socket design options that will work best for you. An appointment will be made at our Prosthetic Ability Inc. - located here - to produce a limb capture and start fabrication of your preparatory prosthesis. Your next appointment will be an initial fitting of your prosthesis and arranging the start of your gait training with a physiotherapist experienced in prosthetic rehabilitation.
